Dear Friend:

Most people don’t realize that as much as 40% of our Douglas public health funding does not come from public sources. Douglas Public Health therefore relies on foundation grants, private contributions and income-based service fees to support a huge portion of work for our Douglas County residents. Led by a 100% giving community board, the Douglas Health Futures Foundation works tirelessly to fulfill our purpose to provide financial, fundraising, and advocacy support for our local public health programs in need.

The Douglas Health Futures Foundation was created in 1994 for the sole purpose of accepting a private land and estate fund donation. It remained relatively quiet aside from that purpose until 2012. At that time, the board teamed with then-foundation director John D. “Jack” Kennedy, M.D., to reinvigorate efforts and build a stronger local presence. The board kicked off its first annual campaign in 2014 to seek financial gifts from individuals in the community.

Since 2015, the Foundation has hosted its annual signature breakfast, “Healthy Futures – Partnering for Children’s Health,” to celebrate client successes and community generosity. The Foundation board was strategic in choosing to focus its fundraising efforts on programs that improve the health and safety of children in Douglas County. These programs—Children’s Medical Services, Babies Can’t Wait, Children 1st, and Douglas Safe Kids—continue to be the driving force behind the board’s efforts today.

Thank you to all who support our Foundation. Only with your help can we grow stronger and continue to promote healthier lives and a healthier community.
